Improve Your PC with Driver Updates

Here’s how to ensure your Ubuntu-driven PC is up-to-date with the latest hardware drivers.

The hardware drivers required varies, of course, from machine to machine. Ubuntu generally works out what driver choices you’ll want to know about, to consider installing.

To take a look at what’s available for your PC, in the menu:-

System > Administration > Hardware Drivers

Listed are any available proprietary drivers. Simply highlight what, if anything, you want, and click the Activate button.

For instance, by default, my wireless wasn’t working until I chose the appropriate driver from this list, and I was able to improve the graphical performance as well from one of the choices in this list.

.. But don’t get too click happy here. Check out the options and Google them. I had two choices of wifi driver and, after a little research, it turned out one was more advanced than the other. Talk about a close call, huh.

    Regarding your nice ub910 install guide and the two “mysterious” zeros at the end of those fstab entries, in fstab fields five and six, which you were not sure the purpose of? The fifth field controls which file systems need to be dumped, but generally NOT a good idea, so set it to zero! And the sixth field controls fs checking. Set root fs to 1, all others to be checked to 2, and those you do not want checked at all to 0.

    root / fs = 0 1
    all others to be checked = 0 2
    and any fs you don’t want auto checked = 0 0

    ijust want to get alist of drivers and hardware as in windows u can go to control panel or properties which buttons do I press in ubuntu?
