Guv’s Book: ‘WordPress 3 Ultimate Security’ – Press Release
Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Some of you will remember or first found this ‘lil site off the back of a pretty well-known WordPress security blog post here, Video How-to: 10 Tips To Make WordPress Hack-Proof.
In the comments I promised a follow-up because, frankly, I wasn’t satisfied with the content, it just didn’t cover the WordPress security bases.… Read the rest» news » WordPress 3 Ultimate Security: Book's Published :)
PayPal Support? You Must be Joking
Saturday, November 20th, 2010
The sham that is PayPal does not fail to disappoint.
First they open a “case” for no apparent reason, having received no complaint and as I explained in PayPal: Can I Trust You With My Business?
Then they steal money from my account. Steal? Strong word huh .. it’s in the dictionary.… Read the rest» PayPal » Inept, Inadequate, Insulting
PayPal: Can I Trust You With My Business?
Tuesday, November 9th, 2010
PayPal brands itself as The faster and safer way to get paid. Really? I’ve used the service over many years and generally everything seems to work. Sometimes, though, their poor controls and irresponsibility takes over and completely screws your time and business.
Here’s one such occasion. It is not the first such example, nor the worst case I have had (by far) but it illustrates, as well as any, an endemic problem with PayPal that I, at least, have never known with any other financial institution (for all their sins) ..… Read the rest» PayPal » Playing God Again
Community Chest: The Sunny Side of the E-lance Coin
Sunday, July 25th, 2010
You’re a freelance content pro and you know how it is: you’re poor and running on fumes!
It’s no easy deal quitting the corporates to take the e-lance route, swapping the fast lane for the slow lane that is online blogjam.
I guess frustration is the keyword as you try to zip thru’ the traffic just to dead-end with yet another road block.… Read the rest» Case Study » A Note of Freelance Inspiration
Slightly Rude Preview: Lucid Lynx Bible Starts Monday
Thursday, April 22nd, 2010
Well, this may sound sad, and that’s ‘cos it is, but I’ve been salivating tongue-to-floor for months, waiting for the Ubuntans’ latest release.
.. Damn, time was, I used to be that way about the upcoming Oasis album but, in their case, that turned out to be crap.
Here though, with the more respectfully named Lucid Lynx, and having toyed with this pussy on and off for the last few days, I have to say – so far – it’s box-clever.… Read the rest» preview » Lucid Lynx Bible
Lucid Lynx Review: Sweet! Get Ready for LTS
Monday, April 19th, 2010
In advance of the new series of posts to show how to set up Ubuntu’s latest Linux distro, Lucid Lynx, here are my initial thoughts about this important Long Term Support edition.
- Pros: Wireless works out of the box
- Cons: Installer hangs *
- Verdict: Impressive, promising
* right at the end, contained problem, see below.… Read the rest» review » Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04
Alinghi, Way More Than Just a Boat
Monday, February 15th, 2010
It’s a dreary, rainy old day in Valencia today, and full of dusty heads.
The weather echoes the sentiments of many here, who watched and hoped for a win by the Swiss boat, Alinghi, in the America’s Cup. That wasn’t to be.
There can be no hiding the fact that Alinghi, the defender of the last Cup, was out-sailed by the American trimaran, and that the best boat won.… Read the rest» scribble » Ode to a Fellowship
VPS Bible: Do I Really Have to Charge?
Saturday, February 13th, 2010
vpsBible.com has been live for nearly a week.
It provides a niche home for the subject Setup Unmanaged VPS 4 Linux Noobs and I built it somehow to monetize the time it takes to produce these tutorials, while also giving Guvnr back its remit to produce content along the lines of Make the web, make more of it.… Read the rest» Case Study » vpsBible: Making It Pay, Making It Work
vpsBible.com – b. 9th Feb 2010, Fair Weight.
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
At last that damn site’s gone live. Just in time for me to go to bed and catch up some sleep.
Yeah right. Not quite.
But it’s there now, and I’ll be using it as an example, here on Guv, as to how probably not to build a community membership site thing.… Read the rest» vpsBible stuff » Would I break a Promise?
vpsBible.com – What, Why & Other Q&A’s
Monday, February 1st, 2010
Those of you who’ve been following this blog will know I’ve taken steps to port the VPS Bible series to a new home of its own. In fact, that happens this week.
By way of an introduction to the new site, the whys and therefores, I figured it’d be nice to give my intrepid community here at Guvnr the inside track ..… Read the rest» guv-news » Find out more about vpsBible.com
